SegaFans Update Log

Postby Chakan » Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:23 am

Few small minor changes during a hectic work week...

THINGS I DID

-We've got segafans.com referring to the new site now. Soon we'll have the domain segafans.com attatched to the host directly and we'll move the forums there.

-Changed the site layout from 760 pixels to 960. I was personally browsing the interweb at 1024 resolution YEARS AGO, and I'm pretty sure it's now the default setting for new machines (if not higher).

-Tested above adjustment in Firefox 3, IE8, and Android Browser. Looks fine in all 3 but Android Browser has some small issues with table widths. I'm not too concerned since it makes it easier to read without scrolling left/right on my G1 in horizontal mode. So it works well enough and now I don't have a reason to touch IE again. :)

-Made a slightly better logo. I still love you, Hotsuma! :(

-Realized I typed Joe Musashi above when it was Hotsuma.

-/facepalmed

-This past week, I started working on the Dreamcast page a bit.

-Bought some games, a new PC, some site-related hardwares, and ate some food.

-Got my pubes! :O

THINGS TO DO:

- Finish Sega World Weekly archive. Need to go through each newsletter, write a summary of the contents, and slap a date on them.

- Flesh out Dreamcast page with peripherials, update the introduction, and touch up my recommendations.

- Work on first game 'article.' It's a game that's pretty much loathed by the majority of people. I'm out to alienate everyone as I express what I like about the game. No, it's not a Cho Aniki game.

- Once Dreamcast section is done, begin work on Saturn section, then continue backwards through time. I figured it would be easier to do it this way, since there is still a lot of Dreamcast/Saturn content/info on the internet from when those consoles heydays. Well, not a lot, but a lot more.

It looks great so far. But you just got your pubes? Aren't you ten years older than me? I was around for Segafans Survivor after all, and I'm 22 now.

Wayne: Oh, I almost forgot! This year Garth finally got pubes.
Garth: You didn't tell them about my pubes did you?
Wayne: No, of course not.

Random additions to the Merchandise page. I think I just doubled the amount of stuff there. If you run across anything cool online or have something you want to share with the world, send me a PM or email the stuffs.

Funny note: someone's trying to sell the Sonic coffee mug on Ebay for nearly $200 right now. XD

Also changed the forum's config to allow avatars up to 200x200.

Wanted to get more done today, but due to landlord having to repair part of my bathroom and other real life stuff, it's not going to happen. Somewhere I'll find time to get the first game article up... ugh...

THINGS I DID:
-Added a Genesis page. Halfway done with writing an original intro, but out of time atm. I probably missed a few recommendations since I was doing it off the top of my head.
-Added some images to Dreamcast page.
-Added favicon of Sonic to the site. Will more than likely replace somewhere down the line.

THINGS TO DO:
-Everything listed above and...
-Finish writing Genesis intro.

THINGS I'LL BE DOING:
-Installing fresh phpBB onto new server. During the next day or two, I'll have it setup, lock the forums on the current server, copy the database, then paste it on the new server. I'll change the link to the forums once I start working on this, so make sure you are entering the site from segafans.com.
-Josh and I will get the domain name pointing correctly to the site very soon!

Streets of Rage 2 - Some may want to sucker punch me for choosing this over SoR3, but I haven't played it yet! So I can only honestly say SoR2 is a very solid beat'em up.
I hope this isn't referring to me. [/quote]
Q: There were these commercials where someone would say "NANTEN," and someone else would respond by singing "NODO AME~" (throat candy).

Just a quick note to let you guys know Josh and I are getting the domain and forums setup over the next day or so. The domain's setup now to start pointing to the new host, BUT it may take a day or two for your various ISPs to get it updated properly. Just bear with us.

To be safe, bookmark turntoch3.com/segafans temporarily.

To move the forums, it looks like I need to upgrade the software at the current host and THEN back it up & restore it to this new host.

Fun stuff. :O

Well, that took forever to setup and some stuff still isn't perfect. HOWEVER! The forums are moved with no loss of posts!

The bad news is that you'll all have to re-upload your avatars. Sorry. :\

My avatar made it. It must be the superiority of it.

Nice to look at forums, but I'm so confused. Which box do I put my **** in?!

For those of you folks who A) uploaded their avatars to the old forums and B) I remembered which one was yours; your avatar has been fixed.

Also, the domain name seems to have been worked out on my end. Fixing the now broken site :O

... and a few moments later, everything seems to be working again. You can now delete any temporary bookmarks and use segafans.com again for all of the site.

So as far as I can tell, project: MOVE THIS BITCH is complete. Huzzah!

I forgot to make it the default earlier. Change your forum style to minimalistic in your user settings.

Edit: should be fixed now.

THINGS I DID
-Updated the forum skin so you can actually tell when there's a new post somewhere without squinting. You'll see a nice blue icon like this one when logging into the forums: Image

Also, if you are hip like me, you can bookmark this link. Then each time you click on it, it'll automatically search for new posts and only list those topics.
