Sega CD from Game Players Nintendo Guide August 1992 Sega of America came on strong at CES, with it's announcement of a $99 Genesis system that matches the new Super NES price, and a sneak peak at an early version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as well. Sega's $99 portable Game Gear also attracted a lot of attention with lots of new software, including Batman 2 and Streets of Rage, due this fall. The biggest splash from Sega was the intro of the Sega CD, a $299 compact disc unit that connects to the Genesis to play a new generation of video games. It also plays CD audio discs and the CD+G (graphics) format. Look for 20 CD titles when the Sega CD launches in November, and another 20 next spring. The Super NES CD-player from Nintendo of America is expected early in 1993.
